Backup Settings:
Always be prepared!

The Backup Settings window is the 4rth step in Normal mode backup
In here you can find four sets of options:

1. Backup Settings:

The user can select the type of the backup job, the three types are:

  • Normal Backup:
Using this type of backup, the new backup job overwrites the previous one. A new backup archive is created to replace the old one.

Using this type of backup, all files will be overwritten if the “data backup without compression” method was used, and the backup file (.bol) will be overwritten if the “data backup with compression” method was used.

  • Increment Backup:
Using this type of backup, Genie Outlook Backup detects previous backups, and adds the new files that are not present in the old backup job. By comparing the files' "last modified" time and date; new files are determined and then added to the archive.

Files that were backed up previously and were not selected in the new backup will be left without change. Unchanged files wont be backed up. This will save a lot of time in the backup process.

The Increment Backup option is only available when backing up data to a local/LAN location, removable media or single (not multiple) CD/DVD disks, and the backup file should be less than 2GB in size

  • Mirror Backup:
Using this type of data backup, new files are added, while deleting files that don’t exist in the new backup job and updating existing ones. This backup type will produce a backup file that is exactly identical to the selected backup items.

The file-update process is done by comparing the files' "last modified" time and date.

The Mirror Backup option is only available when backing up data to a local/LAN location, removable media or single (not multiple) CD/DVD disks, and the output backup file should be less than 2GB in size

2- Backup Compression Settings

This set of options allows the user to choose to compress the backup data or not, and to choose the level of compression if the data compression option was chosen.

Data compression is suitable for archived data that is intended to be saved to a remote FTP server, or if the data is to be backed up in the form of an executable EXE file. Compressed data can be saved to a local folder, to CD/DVD or to any removable medium.

The data compression allows the user to backup data of unlimited size, and the final archive will be split to files with a maximum size of 2GB each. Those files will be given the names: xxx.000, xxx.001, xxx.002, etc... Where xxx is the name of the backup job.

The restore process starts by executing the .bol file.

On the other hand, data backup without compression is much faster and considerably minimizes the possibility of data loss or damage.

Uncompressed data can also be saved to a local folder, to CD/DVD or to any removable medium.

The password data protection option is not available for the data backup without compression method, but a 128bit encryption using the Blowfish method can be used to provide security for the backup data.

3. Security Settings:

The user can choose one of the three available security options:

1- No Security: the user can choose to continue the backup process without any security option.

2- Password Protection: This option is only available with the “Backup with Compression” option in the “Compression Settings” window. The user can enter the password in the “Password” field and then confirm it in the “Confirm Password” field. Data backup with compression producesa relatively smaller backup file, which saves more disk space.

3- 128 Bit Encryption: the user can choose to encrypt the backup data by checking the “Enable 128bit Encryption” option. This option encrypts data using the Blowfish method, which is a highly secure 128-bit encryption algorithm that provides maximum security for your data. This option is available with both options: data backup with and without compression. The password can be entered in the “Password” field and then confirmed in the “Confirm Password” field.

Notes:
The password is case-sensitive.
Password-protected data can never be retrieved without the password. The user must make sure to write down his password, and keep it in a safe place.

4- Advanced Settings:

1- Send e-mail notification:
This option gives the user the option to receive notification e-mail. This email contains information about the backup job. There is also an option to attach the backup log to the notification email.
The user can also choose to receive the notification email upon finishing the backup task by selecting the “When the backup finishes” option, or to receive the notification email if an error occurs during the backup process by checking the “When the backup finishes with an error” option.

2- E-mail Settings:
